Zinc-Free Clear is a glossy glaze recommended for use with underglazes to reduce the incidence of color shift. Most underglazes, stains, and coloring oxides will show their best color with Zinc-Free Clear.
HF-9 is a Zinc-Free clear, transparent gloss glaze. Because the presence of zinc in a glaze formula may change the appearance of certain underglaze and stain colors, a zinc-free clear is very important for application over underglaze decoration. Any variation in color intensity of the underglazes will then depend on the individual color stability at Cone 5. HF-9 is Dinnerware Safe and AP Non-Toxic. Apply to Cone 04 bisque and fire to Cone 5/6.
Some AMACO Underglaze Colors may be muted with HF-9 Zinc-Free Clear:
V-315 Peach
V-316 Light Pink
V-323 Salmon
Tableware producers must test all finished ware to establish dinnerware status, due to possible variations in firing temperature and contamination.
